Since the infamous iOS update, Facebook ads have been turned upside down.
Apple has made it much harder for Facebook to track sales and conversions on all of their devices. What may have worked for you last year may no longer be working right now. After evaluating what is working on Facebook currently, use the following tips to grow your business throughout 2022 and beyond… applicable to both Facebook Ads and Instagram Ads.
Use the improved Lead Generation Ad campaign, native to Facebook.
Since Facebook now finds it difficult to track what your customers are doing on your website, they have pivoted to try to keep Facebook users on their platform as much as possible. As a result, they have improved their Lead Generation campaign setting which means that you can collect potential customer’s data by by offering a free lead magnet (usually a digital product like an ebook). A bonus for potential customers is that they don’t need to leave Facebook but can receive your lead magnet product with a single click as all of the customer information will be pre-filled automatically with their name and email address. As Facebook can see what is happening, as opposed to sending potential customers to a landing page on your website, they can show your ad to people most likely to convert which keeps your marketing costs down.
Constantly run engagement ads.
Running engagement ads will help all of your other ad campaigns. To setup, you will want a piece of top funnel engagement media, such as a video or other content to garner clicks, likes and shares. It can be something entertaining, useful or even inspirational. The idea of this is to give your Facebook Ad account a constant stream of data of people who react to your brand. What’s more, you can set this up with a few dollars a day. When you come to using more expensive conversion ads, Facebook already knows who responds well to your content, therefore maximising your ad spend.
Video is now non-negotiable, meaning you must be using it in your ad campaigns. You want any competitive advantage you can get as you are paying to compete with your competitors, so ask yourself “How can I use video instead of using a basic static image to promote my website?”. You may have seen our blog post regarding our experience with Billo which can help you with your Facebook ads or simply putting a GIF title over your static image (you can find free ones giphy.com) can do the trick.
Instagram Reel Ads.
These were introduced a few months ago, and whenever a new ad position is released, Facebook and Instagram will always want to push their new marketing opportunity so will incentivise you to trial their new ad type by keeping your cost per engagement down. You can run the same ad in Instagram Reels, Instagram Stories and Facebook Stories as the ad format is the same. Make sure to keep your ads down to no more than about 15 seconds to increase engagement.
Did you know that you can create a ‘Lookalike Audience’ on Facebook, meaning that you can tell Facebook to find people who are very similar to those who have already clicked, liked, shared and have bought from you in the past? The Facebook algorithm will find the common denominator between your fans, followers and customers and target similar ‘lookalike’ people with your ad. This will maximise conversions and keep your ad spend down as Facebook can use reliable data to find potential customers.
